First Baha'i territory?

Universal House of Justice member Stephen Hall recently visited Perth and advised that the island of Tanna (one of the islands in Vanuatu) has now handed the entirety of its decision-making over to the Local Spiritual Assembly!

Since the cyclone hit there recently, all sacred sites for the village elders were destroyed. These sacred sites were where the elders would gather to make decisions for the several villages on the island, and since God had destroyed them, they decided that all decisions should now be in the hands of the Local Spiritual Assembly.

Only a few of the elders are Baha'is and yet such trust is placed on the spiritual position the Local Spiritual Assembly holds for all island inhabitants. Indeed, the decisions of the LSA since the cyclone hit the islands of Vanuatu have been nothing short of inspired!

Ya Baha'ul-Abha!

Thank you for that news, it gives me something positive to think about today. I would like to know how the situation develops. We should all include that community in our prayers. If there are other religions present, there may be some push back.

Sounds like an urban (island) legend. Any independent sources to support that?

Are you implying Universal House of Justice members are filling their public talks with urban legends???

I'm confused ......

Kam,
. I think he just means did you "hear this", or what is the source. Meaning, this isn't just "something I heard"...

. Have you/can you verify it beyond "Well, I heard it on Baha'i Forums" kind of thing, before passing it along. Or in the words of Ronald Reagan "Trust, but verify."

Thanks Dale,

I think the answer is very clear in my OP

It may well be that such a remote, obscure little island is the place where "the last shall be first", and " Should they atempt to quench it's light upon the earth, it will rear itself in the mid most heart of the sea."

(Rough quote)

Unicef appears to be unaware of the new arrangements for governing Tanna:

UNICEF Pacific Island Countries - Latest stories - UNICEF Regional Director visits Tanna and meets children affected by TC Pam

and the police and government are still functioning as if they had heard nothing about it

Kiwi teen charged with murder in Vanuatu after 'vicious, drunken fight over girl'

There's no word in the press about the dissolution of the Regional Council, nor have I heard anything to say that the UHJ has repudiated Abdu'l-Baha's strict injunction:

Quote:
"Should they place in the arena the crown of the government of the whole world, and invite each one of us to accept it, undoubtedly we shall not condescend, and shall refuse to accept it."
(Tablets of the Divine Plan, p. 50)
The story seems absurd in many ways. But it could be just a gross exaggeration of some actual event.

Thanks Sen,

I'm really not sure what to make of it all.

I'm certain Stephen Hall was not exaggerating, but maybe I misunderstood the reality of what is happening. Certainly the audience listening to him made the conclusions I had posted above.

I guess its a case of keeping our eyes and ears open for any developments
