Regarding my JYG.

Greetings my friends of the Bahá'í Forums!

I have been holding a junior youth group since the summer of 2011 in my community and recently I have been forced to move to the other side of the city and the commute to the JYG in my old community is approximately 45-60 minutes (without traffic). I love the youth I've been working with and their parents have been all too nice to hold the gathering at their own homes (some even prepare a meal for all of us every time they invite us). It's a really awesome group since we started, we've been going to do community service (e.g. last November, we went and helped remove graffiti from public parks and community places around the city) and this year, the youths in my group have been going to a local nursing home for the elderly people with dementia and Alzheimer's and they love the kids being there to entertain them through fun games for both the elders and the youths. My group roughly consists of 12-15 youths who are very active (they mostly go to middle school and I also help them with their homework as a tutor). I honestly love these kids and we were able to finish Glimmerings of Hope last summer and we started Ruhí book 5 with them in August 2012. I am also co-animating with another Bahá'í who lives in the community I used to live in but because of the long commute, I can't afford to pay for all that gas and time since I'm a full-time student and work during the weekends.

The reason I'm posting this thread because I need help from someone who is experienced in the situation I'm in and I really need to get out of this JYG but I can't because my other animator cannot handle it herself and she's been looking for someone else to assist her with the group. I've been talking to her about it but I don't know how to explain to her with my 'materialistic, lesser' problems in life about the money, time and the amount of work to put in going to these JYG 2 times a week. Does anyone have any advice they could give me on this situation? I can't do this anymore.

Have you considered consulting with the Cluster Institute Coordinator in your area? Or with the Assembly if there is one in your area?

I would consult with your ATC and LSA about this. If nothing else they should be able to help you with the gas and work at a strategy for eventually replacing you with another animator.

BTW, even here in Mississippi we hear about the wonderful work being done in JYEPs in the Phoenix Cluster. In fact, awhile back they were going to fly my out there so I could observe it first hand.

Great to hear the dedication of these Youth, may God bless you all with much capacity and bounty. It is a special time of life, we seem to be more open to new challenges when we are young.
Go for it all of you! It will be a time you will remember all your lives.
