Question Regarding "Celestial Youth"

In the Persian Hidden Words, Baha'u'llah makes mention of the "Celestial Youth" and its importance of it in the spiritual world.

23. O DWELLERS IN THE CITY OF LOVE!
Mortal blasts have beset the everlasting candle, and the beauty of the celestial Youth is veiled in the darkness of dust. The chief of the monarchs of love is wronged by the people of tyranny and the dove of holiness lies prisoned in the talons of owls. The dwellers in the pavilion of glory and the celestial concourse bewail and lament, while ye repose in the realm of negligence, and esteem yourselves as of the true friends. How vain are your imaginings!

70. O SON OF WORLDLINESS!
Pleasant is the realm of being, wert thou to attain thereto; glorious is the domain of eternity, shouldst thou pass beyond the world of mortality; sweet is the holy ecstasy if thou drinkest of the mystic chalice from the hands of the celestial Youth. Shouldst thou attain this station, thou wouldst be freed from destruction and death, from toil and sin.

(Baha'u'llah, The Persian Hidden Words)

I would like the friends' experiences on such beautiful scripture and why it is significant in the whole part of the verses.

I think if we ponder on the verses of the Hidden Words of Baha’u’llah, we find each and every one of them significant.

In the second verse, Baha’u’llah offers us the MYSTIC CHALICE, the WINE OF WONDERMENT, “the rivers of wine delicious to those who drink”, which is promised in the Qur’an for the pious, the "CHOICE SEALED WINE" which has UNSEALED by Him.

“In His Tablets, Bahá'u'lláh identifies the "choice Wine" with HIS REVELATION whose "musk-laden fragrance" has been WAFTED "UPON ALL CREATED THINGS". He states that He has "unsealed" this "Wine", THEREBY DISCLOSING SPIRITUAL TRUTHS THAT WERE HITHERTO UNKNOWN, and enabling those who quaff thereof to "DISCERN THE SPLENDOURS OF THE LIGHT OF DIVINE UNITY" and to "GRASP THE ESSENTIAL PURPOSE UNDERLYING THE SCRIPTURES OF GOD". In one of His meditations, Bahá'u'lláh entreats God to supply the believers with "the choice Wine of Thy mercy, that it may cause them to be forgetful of any one except Thee, and to arise to serve Thy Cause, and to be steadfast in their love for Thee". (Baha'u'llah, The Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 165).

We know that the consumption of wine and other intoxicants is prohibited in the Baha’i Faith but referring to wine in our scriptures as in other religious books is allegorical and refers to HIS REVELATION which is THE CAUSE OF SPIRITUAL ECSTASY.

Following is another verse of the Hidden words in which Baha’u’llah condemns the mortal wine, the evanescent water, the foul and mortal dregs which REMOVES THE WISDOM and encourage us to THE MATCHLESS WINE OF THE IMMORTAL BELOVED, THE CHALICE OF IMMORTAL LIFE which BESTOWS ALL WISDOM:

“O SON OF DUST! Turn not away thine eyes from THE MATCHLESS WINE OF THE IMMORTAL BELOVED, and open them not to foul and mortal dregs. Take from THE HANDS OF THE DIVINE CUP-BEARER the chalice of immortal life, that ALL WISDOM MAY BE THINE, and that thou mayest hearken unto the mystic voice calling from the realm of the invisible. Cry aloud, ye tha are of low aim! Wherefore have ye turned away from My holy and immortal wine unto evanescent water?

In another verse of the Hidden Words it has revealed:

"O SON OF MAN! A dewdrop out of the fathomless ocean of My mercy I have shed upon the peoples of the world, yet found none turn thereunto, inasmuch as every one hath TURNED AWAY FROM THE CELESTIAL WINE OF UNITY unto the FOUL DREGS OF IMPURITY, and, content with MORTAL CUP, hath put away the CHALICE OF IMMORTAL BEAUTY. Vile is that wherewith he is contented.

In the first verse Baha’u’llah addresses the heedless among the people of Baha who regard themselves as His true friends and claim to love Him but take no notice of His embarrassment and captivity and His complains from the people of tyranny who have imprisoned THE DOVE OF HOLINESS Who has come to establish peace and justice in the world; in His captivity in the talons of the owls of tyranny and the assailant of the enemies as the mortal blasts to THE EVERLASTING CANDLE OF THE WORLD and the state of the CHIEF OF THE MONARCHS OF LOVE Who is wronged by His subjects, who without taking a step for the victory of His Faith by arising to serve His cause and are reposing in the realm of negligence; while the concourse on high bewail and lament.

the celestial youth is discussed in a number of Tablets of Baha'u'llah. See for example:

+ Lawh-e Ghulamu'l-Khuld (Tablet of the Deathless Youth, Eternal Youth, Youth of Paradise), Baghdad circa 1863.
Risalih Ayyam Tis`ih 92-99.
Arabic and Persian. Translated John Walbridge with annotations, posted Talisman 96 and at Juan Cole's web page and Baha'i Academics Resource Library. Discussion Taherzadeh, 'Revelation' vol. 1 211-4; by John Walbridge in Walbridge, 'Sacred' 159, 161-163, 222, and 'Erotic Imagery In the Allegorical Writings of Baha'u'llah' available online at bahai-library.org/ unpubl.articles/erotic.allegory. Included in BWC Best Known.

The tablet is online at

My own thoughts on reading these quotes is that Baha'u'llah is talking of the messenger of God, by the words celestial Youth.

After reading Sen's post I see no reason to change my mind.
Even though the translator says Baha'u'llah is speaking of The Bab, as all messengers are in reality one.

By the way thanks for posting the quotes they are truly beautiful, and for me cause deep meditation and reflection.
