Ramblings

Being new to blogging, and experiencing indecision as to what focus to have, I have decided to ramble on about whatever is on my mind and see how it goes. Well, when I say whatever is on my mind I am not talking about everything. Some things I do not wish to share with the internet.

My first thought is THE INTERNET. Well there are pros and cons, I know, but I love the freedom to share ideas. No one I share ideas with needs to be distracted by my physical apearance, my voice, my clothes, they can just respond to the ideas. Likewise, I can do the same. When I see an idea I like to explore on a web site, forum or chat room, I can be free from the distractions of the person who offers it.

I am not suggesting for a moment that this is a substitute for friends who I meet face to face, but it certainly is another dimension that adds to the quality of my life.

In fact, combining the Bahá'í Faith with the internet has defintely improved the quality of my life and I am truly thankful for broadband!

I live in quite an isolated place. It is costly and not always possible to travel to a place where there are a lot of Bahá'ís, and bookshops and quite a few other things. With the internet, I can research, download and discuss topics on a whim. Instant gratification is not all bad. I remember when I would develop an interest in something that, maybe I heard on the radio, then I would have to try to find a contact, use snail mail to enquire about who to write to or who to order a book from, wait for the reply, send the order or question, then wait for another reply or package, which would have probably arrived surface mail which could take months. It was so easy to give up if no other person in the community had the information you wanted or shared the interest. Now, so much is available at the tap of the keyboard.

It is not only Bahá'í stuff. I find that the combination of a competant physician and internet research is a winning combination for dealing with health issues. For example, the doctor could use blood tests to tell me what I was lacking from my diet. She did not have the time or the inclintion to tell me how best to stop the problem happening again past advising supplements. A few taps and I have heaps of information on foods to suplement that element and what I need to eat to help absorb it.

I can honestly say that I am happier and healthier due to having the internet.

The Internet is a wonderful tool for humans to reach out and communicate with one another. I completely agree that I too "am happier and healthier due to having the internet."
