The Golden Rule

This is quotation cellebrating the golden rule, an ancient, strong and very long thread that runs through time an connects religions.

The Golden Rule, the teaching that we should treat others as we ourselves would wish to be treated, is an ethic variously repeated in all the great religions:
Buddhism: "Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful." Udana-Varqa, 5:18.

Moderation in all things

I knew I had read this somewhere but couldn't find it for ages then happily found it again today.

"It is incumbent upon them who are in authority to exercise moderation in all things. Whatsoever passeth beyond the limits of moderation will cease to exert a beneficial influence. Consider for instance such things as liberty, civilization and the like. However much men of understanding may favorably regard them, they will, if carried to excess, exercise a pernicious influence...

This transient life

Here is a hidden word that reminds us that there is more than this life:

I wholeheartedly believe this and yet cannot avoid the sadness when a friend, relative or even member of the community I live in dies, especially when a young person dies suddenly.

Chaos

It is those little unconcious things that we do when we are not even thinking that contribute greatly to a perception of who we are. It is those little things that happen when I am not making a conscious effort that I would like to be a bit more on top of and in control of. It is so much eaier to behave in a model way when you are not tired or stressed.

For me it is the general untidiness that surrounds me that annoys me most. I have a tidy day. I do loads, order is apparent....
