This is a great thread, thanks for finding it. While I get what the others are saying about the illusory self (I used to be Buddhist), I like your approach. I find that it's in prayer that I am humbled and the self falls away. It's in prayer, that I am who I am meant and created to be. We are created "to know thee and to worship thee."

I think an important point is that it's not acceptable to do things just to earn a special place in the afterlife. What immediately comes to one's mind is all those lunatics who do terrible things to others in the conviction that this will earn them credits in heaven.
