Interesting Times - Be a Baha'i

Well the world is throwing us a lot of curve balls

In these times, silence seems to be Golden! Then this quote comes to mind.

"These are the days of my farewell to you, for I am sailing on the fifth of the month. Wherever I went in this country, I returned always to New York City. This is my fourth or fifth visit here, and now I am going away to the Orient. It will be difficult for me to visit this country again except it be the will of God. I must, therefore, give you my instructions and exhortations today, and these are none other than the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh. You must manifest complete love and affection toward all mankind. Do not exalt yourselves above others, but consider all as your equals, recognizing them as the servants of one God. Know that God is compassionate toward all; therefore, love all from the depths of your hearts, prefer all religionists before yourselves, be filled with love for every race, and be kind toward the people of all nationalities. Never speak disparagingly of others, but praise without distinction. Pollute not your tongues by speaking evil of another. Recognize your enemies as friends, and consider those who wish you evil as the wishers of good. You must not see evil as evil and then compromise with your opinion, for to treat in a smooth, kindly way one whom you consider evil or an enemy is hypocrisy, and this is not worthy or allowable. You must consider your enemies as your friends, look upon your evil-wishers as your well-wishers and treat them accordingly. Act in such a way that your heart may be free from hatred. Let not your heart be offended with anyone. If some one commits an error and wrong toward you, you must instantly forgive him. Do not complain of others. Refrain from reprimanding them, and if you wish to give admonition or advice, let it be offered in such a way that it will not burden the bearer. Turn all your thoughts toward bringing joy to hearts. Beware! Beware! lest ye offend any heart. Assist the world of humanity as much as possible. Be the source of consolation to every sad one, assist every weak one, be helpful to every indigent one, care for every sick one, be the cause of glorification to every lowly one, and shelter those who are overshadowed by fear.
In brief, let each one of you be as a lamp shining forth with the light of the virtues of the world of humanity. Be trustworthy, sincere, affectionate and replete with chastity. Be illumined, be spiritual, be divine, be glorious, be quickened of God, be a Bahá’í." Bahá'Ă Reference Library - The Promulgation of Universal Peace, Pages 452-453

Love and Regards To all, Tony

Yes, many curve-balls, and it is the part of an expert athlete to be able to deal with these easily. But then, I am, myself, not an expert athlete.

We could be silent, but that would be, in my own mind, no different than withdrawal - and how can one who has withdrawn contribute to "the fix". Thus, it is with courage and fortitude that we persevere, having faith and knowing, trusting in the support of the Concourse on High.

Hehehe - looked at in one way, one could say that our time here is training for when we enter the Concourse on High ourselves

Only very recently I emailed the following to a few close and good friends. But your post, Tony, reminds me of it now, and hopefully it is an appropriate addition to the thread:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the compilation Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union (quote 31), there is this most interesting statement from Shoghi Effendi:

There is no doubt that the day will come when the very people who are now engaged in destroying the foundations of faith in God and promoting this baseless doctrine of materialism will arise and, by their own hand, snuff out the flame of this commotion. They will sweep away the entire structure of their unrestrained godlessness and will arise with heart and soul, and with hitherto unmatched vigour, to atone for their past failures. They will join the ranks of the followers of Bahá’u’lláh and arise to promote His Cause. . . If the friends remain steadfast, and discharge their duties with loyalty and prudence, the veils of God’s inscrutable wisdom will be lifted and extraordinary events will be witnessed. The hosts of divine confirmation, fortified by the power of the Spirit, will, in unimaginable ways and from unexpected quarters, provide the means for the triumph of the Cause of our Self-Subsisting Lord, and in so doing will brighten the eyes of the faithful throughout the world.
(11 January 1923 to the Bahá’ís of Kirmánsháh - translated from the Persian)

This immediately recalls to mind the following quote from Selections from the Writings of the Bab (page 153-4),

The Day is approaching when God will render the hosts of Truth victorious, and He will purge the whole earth in such wise that within the compass of His knowledge not a single soul shall remain unless he truly believeth in God, worshippeth none other God but Him, boweth down by day and by night in His adoration, and is reckoned among such as are well assured.

However the day looks today, know with certainty God's promise for the future.

Thank you Romane, I enjoyed those quotes and shared them on to other friends.

Yes the heart wants to yell, but I have found Baha'ullah's advice is sound. One can not give the cup until another is ready to drink.

Our lot is to be selfless, as to be able to see the thirsty!

Regards Tony
