Question Why are you Baha'i?

How did you hear about the Baha'i Faith? Why did you become Baha'i?

A long time ago in a galaxy far away..

I was inmy public library and came across two Baha'i books: Baha'i World Faith and Baha'u'llah and the New Era. After reading them I knew that if I ever met a Baha'i I would have to declare my belief in Baha'u'llah! So a few months down the road I declared.

The reason was the Faith fulfilled all the things I had been looking for..

(1) A way I could accept all the Messengers of God and also

(2) be working for race unity and world peace.. as I was also sort of an activist along those lines..

Honestly, born and raised.

But, I am a Baha'i because I believe that the principles of Baha'u'llah are for this current time and age

I knew about the Faith vaguely from a young age. But I read Some Answered Questions, and fell in love with the person of `Abdu'l-Baha. After attending two Baha'i meetings (A devotional and a Ridvan 1st celebration) I knew two things:

(1) I would be lying if I said that I thought anything `Abdu'l-Baha said could possibly be false.
(2) I felt `Abdu'l-Baha in the community and I knew I wanted to be part of any community that seemed to have Him present in it.

So I became a Baha'i on this day two years ago. About five months in I really discovered Baha'u'llah. Obviously I knew who He was and accepted Him, but I discovered Him the same way I had done with His Son.

I am Baha'i because the fundamental verities resonate with me. It how I want to live the rest of my life. I got introduced to the Faith when I lived with a host family in Tunis, Tunisia. They were Baha'i. I served the Peace Corps for 18 months. I came back home to the Mid-west and found that HS friends became Baha'i while I was gone. I moved to the South and Baha'is introduced themselves to me at a coffee shop. After those 3 encounters, I still didn't become Baha'i. I declared almost a year ago now. My life has been more test filled so I know I am on the right Path. I have been so happy since my declaration. Thanks for letting me share.

Ok here are some of my reasons. There are 9 for good measure
  • The lives of the Bab and Baha'u'llah; their love, strength, forbearance, kindness, power, authority, and all the other Divine Attributes they reflected despite the persecution and cruelties inflicted upon Them
  • The Baha'i Holy Writings; their love, beauty, power, authority and countless other qualities all attest to their unmistakable Divine origin
  • The way everything the Bab and Baha'u'llah taught has redounded to the progress and prosperity of the world and its people
  • The clarity of the prophecies of other religions regarding their advent
  • The positive influence the Faith has had in my life, and the negative influence which has resulted from distance from the Faith
  • The love of God and the love of fellow man, regardless of creed or colour, which the Baha'i Faith has inspired into my heart and the hearts of countless others
  • The way its teachings make sense and don't require us to compromise with rationality
  • Its positive teleology: the world is going to get inconceivably better, and every one of us has a role to play in carrying forward an ever advancing civilization
  • Abdu'l-Baha; "a good tree brings forth good fruit", and He is a perfect example of what the Baha'i Teachings can achieve

One guy from South America told me once : Being baha'i is in the world that can only finaly vanishes in decadency, violence and human wars, the only way were you are certain not to die for something absurd. Before to go, you have allready found the right way.

At 15 I concluded that the Religions of the world were not fair or just, and that to be born into a faith and then to believe that only that faith was true, couldn't possibly be a way created by something that was responsible for the amazing, mind blowing, soul stirring and heart rendering universe in which we find ourselves. The true path had to be more intricate and embracing than only one faith having a monopoly of what is true. If he/she it is there then the knowledge and path to it must encompass all with an equal opportunity to know about our spiritual destiny. So when I stumbled across the Baha'i faith it was like finding the center piece of a jigsaw puzzle that let me see a complete picture of what seemed liking before.

Oneness of the creator.
Oneness of mankind .
Oneness of faith.

I was raised in a Muslim family and I honestly had no problem with it. One day, I had a philosophy class and and I studied that there's a philosopher who once asked: Why do we have to follow our parents' religion? The question got stuck with me for a year. I started reading about other religions (to see my options) and just a few days ago, when I was about to give up, I stumbled on a Wikipedia page about the Baha'i religion, so I was like "what the heck, let's see that one". I read the page and I totally fell in love with God. Everything made sense.

Yes: In the Baha'i view, true religion generally does!

Best! :-)
