I seem to remember reading in the writings somewhere of the possibility of changing copper to Gold. I cannot find anything on this on the internet. The reason I am interested in it now is because Gold is sky rocketing in value as the Fed prints more dollars. Some economists predict that Gold will continue to soar as the Dollar and Euro lose value. If Copper were transmuted to Gold then Gold would become virtually worthless and the financial crisis would deepen much further. Anyone have any views, opinions or info. on this? |

According to what I've read it's far easier to transmute Gold into Lead or "Sludge" than the other way around... "...under true nuclear transmutation, it is far easier to turn gold into lead than the reverse reaction, which was the one the alchemists had ardently pursued. Nuclear experiments have successfully transmuted lead into gold, but the expense far exceeds any gain.[4] It would be easier to convert gold into lead via neutron capture and beta decay by leaving gold in a nuclear reactor for a long period of time." That verse from the Writings is found in Gleanings: XCVII. Consider the doubts which they who have joined partners with God have instilled into the hearts of the people of this land. "Is it ever possible," they ask, "for copper to be transmuted into gold?" Say, Yes, by my Lord, it is possible. Its secret, however, lieth hidden in Our Knowledge. We will reveal it unto whom We will. Whoso doubteth Our power, let him ask the Lord his God, that He may disclose unto him the secret, and assure him of its truth. That copper can be turned into gold is in itself sufficient proof that gold can, in like manner, be transmuted into copper, if they be of them that can apprehend this truth. Every mineral can be made to acquire the density, form, and substance of each and every other mineral. The knowledge thereof is with Us in the Hidden Book. (Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 197) There are some passages in the Baha'i Writings that have Alchemical meanings.. usually I think they are to be taken allegorically and spiritually but they are interesting. There's also the well known: 55. O SON OF BEING! Busy not thyself with this world, for with fire We test the gold, and with gold We test Our servants. (Baha'u'llah, The Arabic Hidden Words) Which for me more or less tells where are "business" should be.. - Art :rolleyes |

I had always thought of the "copper to gold" reference as a metaphor for spiritual transformation like the reference of changing a gnat to an eagle. I suppose for our Creator nothing is impossible and we may acquire the knowledge He allows to be revealed so that we may discover.

Well I agree I think it is a spiritual reference.. but it's interesting that John thought of the weight of Gold and suggested we would have it around in the next millenium! Should anyone acquire one hundred mithqals of gold, nineteen mithqals thereof are God's and to be rendered unto Him, the Fashioner of earth and heaven. (Baha'u'llah, The Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 54) :cool |
