Thoughts on Naw-Ruz..

As a Baha'i Naw-Ruz has been a vital part of my spiritual life for some years now.. The Holy Day defines the Baha'i year..It culminates the end of the Nineteen Day Fast and the beginning of the new year.. One can hardly begin to appreciate the significance of Naw-Ruz without observing fasting from sunrise to sunset for nineteen days.. after that, attending a Naw-Ruz picnic in a park is at noon is delicious and lovely and beautiful.. full of thanksgiving and joy.

For Baha'is this marks the year 167 since the Declaration of the Bab in 1844 in Shiraz.. The Baha'i Calendar has nineteen months with nineteen days each month ..a solar calendar with four to five intercalary days accordingly.

There are some other thoughts that could be brought to bear..

The General Assembly of the United Nationa has recently recognized Naw-Ruz as an ancient Holiday that has been observed for some thousands of years and of having cultural value...

General Assembly Recognizes 21 March as International Day of Nowruz, Also Changes to 23-24 March Dialogue on Financing for Development

That the world body recognized the International Day of Naw-Ruz (Nowruz) is significant and that it has ancient origins.

Per the Wiki:

"It has been suggested that the famous Persepolis complex, or at least the palace of Apadana and the Hundred Columns Hall, were built for the specific purpose of celebrating Nowruz."

The sun passing the spring equinox signals a burst of life on the planet.. after the months of winter cold when life seems frozen in a pralaya state. A tree that does not blossum in Spring can be considered well nigh gone and past..

So let this time be a resurgence of spiritual and philosophic wonderment .. an expansion/ascension into the higher realms and planets of the spiritual worlds.

Yes, you are right. Every year, it always gets me with Naw-Ruz and even in the wider community - Easter, when quotations are spouted about the coming of spring and we have autumn! Mind you I don't mind that the days are getting shorter during the fast but sometimes I wonder if there shouldn't be a Southern New Year and a Northern New Year.
