Iran launches missle to Haifa Israel

Currently, I know virtually no details. FOX News Service
announced today (7-13-2006) that Iran launched a missle
that landed in or near Haifa Israel.

I was premature, It appears the attack was from Lebanon.

Sincerely,
Steven J. Hathaway

Israel Extends Air Raids in Lebanon After Hezbollah Attacks

July 14 (Bloomberg) -- Israel extended air raids in Lebanon after Hezbollah fired rockets into the port city of Haifa, as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the United Nations should take the lead in preventing the conflict from escalating.

More than 90 Katyusha rockets struck northern Israel in the past two days killing one person and injuring about 90 others, the Israel Defense Forces said on its Web site.

Israeli jets today struck near a Hezbollah stronghold in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and along the highway linking Lebanon to the Syrian capital, Damascus, the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported. Air force jets yesterday bombed Beirut's international airport. Hezbollah responded to the airport attack by firing rockets into Haifa, Israel's third-largest city.

Israel struck by land, sea and air against Lebanese targets Thursday after Hezbollah guerrillas kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others. For nearly a third week, Israeli forces also hit targets in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas militants are holding another Israeli soldier.

The fighting in Lebanon has opened a second front for Israel, which is carrying out a separate military operation in the Gaza Strip that began June 28. Israeli aircraft attacked two military airports and the navy imposed a blockade on Lebanese ports. The fighting, which began two days ago, has killed at least 56 people and may threaten a broader conflict in the Middle East.
Sincerely,
Steven J. Hathaway

Apparently the rocket hit the stella maris area around the Carmelite monastery which is very close to the Baha'i Holy Places on Mount Carmel...The surprise was that Hezbollah rockets previously did not have that kind of range.

We need to pray for these lost soles. And where appropriate, take a reasoned consultative action. We should not embroil ourselves in these conflicts, but promote pease and unity among mankind.

Quote:
One of the most distinctive aspects of the worldwide Bahá'í community is the hopeful and yet pragmatic way in which its members face the future. Far from fearing it, Bahá'ís the world over are dedicated to creating a new and peaceful world civilization based on principles of justice, prosperity, and continuing advancement. This vision reflects not only an appreciation for humanity's historic longing for peace and collective well-being, but also our understanding that humanity as a whole has now reached a new level of maturity. That it is possible to create societies founded upon cooperation, trust, and genuine concern for others is at the heart of Bahá'í belief and action. Indeed, Bahá'ís believe that humanity is on the verge of an evolutionary leap that will carry humankind to a future where "world peace is not only possible but inevitable."

This past Monday I was visiting the Panama House of Worship when the director there told me he had just heard that Mount Carmel had been hit overnight. He had not heard of exactly where Mount Carmel was hit or if any Bahai property or structures were damaged. I have not been able to locate any further information on this. If anyone knows of any information about this, please post.

I haven't seen any news about Mount Carmel being hit but here is probably some of the latest information:

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...290055,00.html

Mount Carmel is of course fairly good sized in comparison to other features around Haifa.

Let's pray that all Holy Places be spared...and an end to the missile firings period!
