I really don't know where I heard this, do descendents of Baha'u'llah receive money from funds given to the Faith?

A long time ago there was an allowance paid the exiles but as far as I know those days ended with the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.. Here is an example: He instructed Aqay-i-Kalim to divide all the furniture, bedding, clothing and utensils that were to be found in His home, and send half to the house of Mirza Yahya; to deliver to him certain relics he had long coveted, such as the seals, rings, and manuscripts in the handwriting 231 of the Bab; and to insure that he received his full share of the allowance fixed by the government for the maintenance of the exiles and their families. ~ H.M. Balyuzi, Baha'u'llah - The King of Glory, p. 230 And When Bahá'u'lláh decreed that Mirza Yahya and his family should receive their ample share of the monthly allowance which the Ottoman Government gave to the exiles, all of the companions were given their 232 share of the money and also of the utensils in use, copper and otherwise. ~ H.M. Balyuzi, Baha'u'llah - The King of Glory, p. 231 Some time later in a Tablet[1] to Shaykh Salman, Bahá'u'lláh reveals the agony of His heart during this period, and recounts the calumnies of Mirza Yahya concerning his share of the government allowance which was always divided equitably between the exiles. In this Tablet He explains that had it not been for the sake of His companions in exile, He would have never accepted any allowance from the authorities. Indeed, soon after these heart-rending events, Bahá'u'lláh refused to draw this allowance, and sometimes had to sell some of His belongings in order to provide for His daily needs. ~ Adib Taherzadeh, The Covenant of Baha'u'llah, p. 87 One of Yahya's false accusations was that he was not receiving his share of the allowance which the Government had allotted to Bahá'u'lláh and His fellow exiles. To support this claim he sent one of his wives to call on the Governor to complain that her husband's share of allowance was cut off by Bahá'u'lláh and that as a result he had become destitute and his children were on the verge of starvation. As we have already stated, the fact was that Bahá'u'lláh had always supported Mirza Yahya and his family. And when He retired to the house of Rida Big, He had arranged for Yahya to receive his full share of the government allowance. ~ Adib Taherzadeh, The Revelation of Baha'u'llah v 2, p. 166 Last edited by arthra; 10-12-2011 at 09:26 PM. |
