A Baha'i scholar with whom I discussed this Forum this past weekend instructed me that while we may need to have some knowledge about these attackers, we should NOT engage them. She has had a message from the Universal House of Justice not to engage them, because contact with them is "spiritually corrosive". Also an Auxilliary Board Member said avoid them altogether, and I plan to take this to heart. We don't need to give seekers the idea that we avoid these attackers and deterrents to the Faith because we have something to hide, but we should avoid dealing directly with these forces that wish us such great ill. It is apparently foolish for anyone to prove himself by attempting to communicate anything with someone who hates so intensely that there is no hope of change. The hate that I felt as I briefly scanned that thread was enough to convince me that I can fully embrace that instruction. I won't be on that thread any further or respond to this type of poster. I believe it is not necessary for me to do so. It is exciting to play with a grenade, but after it has gone off it is too late to be wise. Must one become a bite victim to see if a snake is poisonous? We may have to let the obviousness of their hate be the only explanation we can give. As she was instructed is the best course. Engaging with them is what they live for, to hurt others. Think about this. CP |

This is good advice.. it would also be good to say some prayers for those who demonstrate such animosity and also pray for their family. Beyond that we must leave them to themselves and in God's mercy... We must look upon our enemies with a sin-covering eye and act with justice when confronted with any injustice whatsoever, forgive all, consider the whole of humanity as our own family, the whole earth as our own country, be sympathetic with all suffering, nurse the sick, offer a shelter to the exiled, help the poor and those in need, dress all wounds and share the happiness of each one. Be compassionate, so that your actions will shine like unto the light streaming forth from the lamp. If the whole world should arise to deny this cause, we must not fight. Our only role is to spread the teachings. If it be accepted, all is well; if not, leave the people to God. ~ Abdu'l-Baha, Divine Philosophy, p. 38 |

It is good advice, unfortunately there are some that continue to engage in conversation in that thread. I became a Baha'i in a Town that had a Covenant Breaker and from the onset I was shown thew wisdom on Shunning this poison. The pens of Baha'u'llah, Abdul'baha & Shoghi Effendi have all issued warnings re this. I am at a loss as to why one would want to pursue a conversation in the light of this. Regards Tony |

The message was not advice in my view, but instruction.
