"This", He said, "is a state of true faith which gives man such assurance and conviction of God's bounty, that all the trials and sufferings of this earth cannot affect him." Speaking of true joy and happiness. He said in part: "If a man is not happy in his life, death is better than such a life. True joy comes from the tranquility of heart, and this state comes from faith! Praise be to God who gave us tranquility of heart! This is why we are always happy. I pray and supplicate to the Beauty of Abha to bless all the servants and maid-servants with true happiness resulting from the tranquility of heart."………. Abdul-Baha on Joy as medicine Then turning to Haji Khurasani (* Who was just recovering from a long period of mental and physical indisposition. *) He said in part: Joy is the best cure for your illness. Joy is better than a hundred thousand medicines for a sick person. If there is a sick person and one wishes to cure him, let one cause joy and happiness in his heart." 1906 Pilgrim Notes of Ali Kuli Khan Last edited by arthra; 12-09-2011 at 10:20 PM. |

Has anyone done a search on the artist? The work has some similarities to impressionism and that may be why it is at the Smithsonian. She had to have some significance to American art. http://images.search.yahoo.com/searc...ce+Pike+Barney Last edited by cire perdue; 12-10-2011 at 01:00 PM. Reason: link |

Alice Pike Barney (born Alice Pike, January 14, 1857 – 1931) was an American painter. She was active in Washington, D.C. and worked to make Washington into a center of the arts. Her two daughters were the writer and salon hostess Natalie Clifford Barney and the Bahá'í writer Laura Clifford Barney.[1].. In later years, she invented and patented mechanical devices, wrote and performed in several plays and an opera,[11] and worked to promote the arts in Washington, D.C. Many of her paintings are now in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.[12] She converted to the Bahá'í Faith around 1900.[13] Alice Pike Barney - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

The paintings are really great. Something somewhat off topic. Are there any artists in this forum? I'm really interested in seeing some artwork from others if that is the case.

Okay, Natalie being a hostess is a rather tactful approach. That is the second daughter of a Baha'i parent with a sibling Baha'i I have encountered from that period that was not a Baha'i and outre even for the time, very.
