I am currently reading the History of the Bab

The answer to your question is no and yes they were persecuted first.

In the end the followers of the Bab defended themselves very heroically indeed.

Mullah Husayn feats as a defender were amazing and fulfilled many a prophesy.

Here is a link to read - The DawnBreakers - Nabl's Narrative of the Early Days of the Bah' Revelation

The one I am reading is - Release the Sun - William Sears - Google Books

This is an easier read and very moving

I might add that it was a very tumultuous time and this story moves me every time I read it.

The injustices handed out to the followers of the Bab are despicable.

It is amazing how identical the Trials of both Christ and the Bab were and how they responded to the situation.

To me, no one who reads about the birth of this Faith could ever deny its power and sovereignty are of God. If you denied this then you would have to deny the birth of all previous Faiths. So many soul stirring happenings, revelation and prophesy fulfilled

Best of luck in Faith

Regards Tony

Whoever said that was either mistaken or misinformed. There is nothing I've found in the history of the Bab or His teachings that supports such a thing. Besides, the persecutions of the Bab and the Babis had started well before the Bayan had been revealed.

There are laws

There are laws in the Bayan of the Bab that were very extreme. Babis were to burn all books except Babi books, marry only other Babi's. The Bab wrote HOWEVER that all of these laws were conditional and not to be enforced except by the will of Him Who God will make manifest. That is why the KATBI AQDAS is written as it is in some places and cancels the laws of the Bab, like not burning books which the Bab instructed His followers to do. This can be found in the book, GATE OF THE HEART.

These issues they have brought to you are difficult for you without knowing the history. However it is there to be understood and is very clear. Babi's did fight defensive battles and in one case they surrendered to a contract written on a Qu'ran and were then betrayed and massacred though a Qu'ran was used. Those sieges were filled with miracles and proofs of faith. However the treachery of those against them was shameful.

The Bab was examined by a group of clerics who asked Him questions. When He answered, before He could finish, one of the Mullas (?) said that the Bab had made a grammatical error and obviously was too ignorant to be Who He claimed. However if it was an error it was exactly the same way in the Qu'ran. The Bab had been speaking as if He had been Muhammad, and the grammar was exactly as Muhammad spoke. The Bab answered no more questions after that. How could He?

When you do not have the facts to comfort you, it is important that you look to your heart and faith. It is okay not to have answers if you have a connection with your heart. Consider what is the attitude of this person who is questioning me? Is it sincere or they trying to trick me? The heart connection is the most important of all. Pray for that.

I was asked early in my faith about Christian prophecies and I found all these answers by myself in the Bible. None were acceptable. Later I would find that all the answers I gave were in other Baha'i books, that I had done a very good job. Only the sincere want answers, and the sincere are rare. Do not let the winds of doubt blow out the flame of your candle of faith. Shield it with the love and certitude that can come only from your heart.
