The Discussion of Meher Baba

Hello, my friends. I've recently been helping out with a "religious calendar project" and was tasked with finding about any holidays taking place between (At this point) now and Feb 7. I came across Amartithi - January 31st, where followers of Meher Baba have 15 minutes of silence to honour his death.

Now, I had not heard of this name at all before, and I figured in honour of his day I may bring this topic up to everyone, so that we may potentially discuss and learn more of this man.

From what I saw, I can most assuredly say he lived his life with love. He directly claimed to be the Ancient One - saying that in past lives he was Zoroaster, Rama, Krishna, Jesus, and Muhammad (I might have missed one or two). He lived between 1894-1969. Though he may have certainly been very spiritual it seems to me as he lived after Baha'u'llah that claiming to be the Ancient One, Avatar, Manifestation, etc, is blatantly not possible as it contradicts Baha'u'llah.

I'm curious as to if he knew about Abdu'l-Baha, whom he would have been alive with before Meher Baba started his journey in.. 1921?

Either way, though I do not consider him a manifestation or lesser prophet, I can understand why a person would. He appeared to be a very loving man.

There were so many individuals who made claims akin to and contradictory with Baha'u'llah's own claims during the turn of the millennium that I have come to believe it was partially a result of the spiritual forces permeating the Earth during that time. All of these people bore a resemblance of His own message. I have not been inspired by any of their works to the degree that Baha'u'llah has inspired me, but I often see a reflection of Him in them. While they may have been confused or even a bit overly proud, I doubt God will blame them for misinterpreting their own dreams and impulses. Most seemed to be mystically inclined, and merely wished to teach their form of the truth for the betterment of their fellow man.

Indeed. There seem to be many who perceive the new energy. I've never seen anyone comment upon the fact that the Taiping uprising in China coincides with Bahá'u'lláh's revelation, and that its leader called himself The Little Brother of Jesus.

I had never heard of Meher Baba. The message in itself seems absolutely true, whereas the methods seem somewhat odd.

I think Pete Townsend of the Who was a follower of his.

I think if you're in the west, and you develop this intense search for spiritual knowledge, you're going to look east at some point, and the subcontinent is going to look back at you. I certainly have a stack full of books about Vivekananda, Ramakrishna, translations of Ramayana, the Gita, etc from that period. I'm very grateful for the things I learned.
