Help needed proofreading Quran translation

Hi all,

I recently noticed a few errors in the online version of A.J. Arberrys' translation of the Quran. I think someone probably copy - pasted content which did not turn out as expected, due to the odd way the content is arranged in the printed version.

It is online at several places as the only translation by a non-Muslim that is deemed worthy.

Those who would like to help me in the effort to have an error-free version can compare the common online version as found here: https://archive.org/details/QuranAJArberry with the version I'm working on located here: https://archive.org/details/ArberryKoran

So far I've found and corrected errors at 22:18 and 25:18, and am working on 17:38. When such obvious errors as these are reported to me here, I will be glad to upload a corrected version.

Thanks

Roy

whoa, that sounds like one NEAT project. I'll pass this link on to my genius daughter who speaks Arabic and English (+ a few others) and mention the need. She most probably will say she's either unqualified or too busy or both but at least she might pass it on.

Meanwhile, pse keep us posted.

tx!

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the input. The errors are in the layout. No need to know Arabic, and there is no intention to change Arberrys' translation. He was a scholar of Arabic, and his translation reputedly "remains the reference of choice for most academics" ( see Assessing English translations of the Quran ).
