Leo Tolstoy and the Baha'i Faith

. Several of the area Baha'is will be attending the play called:
. "DISCORD", The Gospel of Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickins, and Count Leo Tolstoy.

. This will be on Saturday evening at a large amphitheater on campus at Loma Linda University, with expected attendence to be at least 100 to perhaps over 300 people in attendance. We have been consulting on this as per viewing it as a kind of unofficial proclamation opportunity.

. The playwright, Scott Carter, who is not from this area, will be coming, with Questions and Answers following the performance. Our consultation has yielded that we should pose the question asking him if he is aware of the quotation of Leo Tolstoy pertaining to the Faith.

. The theatre is minimalist, with the three men locked in a simple room they find themselves in as a kind of passage to heaven, requiring them to resolve their differences pertaining to the Gospel before they can leave.

. So our intention is to frame our question into something suitable, speaking into the microphone, with a question from the program itself, and include the statement of Count Leo Tolstoy.

. On the program, it reads: "What is the key to escaping the room in which the three men are trapped?"

. "We spend our lives trying to unlock the mystery of the universe, but there was a Turkish prisoner, Baha'u'llah, in Akka, Palestine, who had the Key."

. And... yes, the T-shirt will be worn... before a crowd of perhaps several hundred, mostly Adventist, theatre goers.

. Sooo... Please say teaching prayers. This is a big one!!!

. Ya Baha'ul'Abha!!!

Two things

There are two things happening. This evening I've been invited to a nearby Adventist Church by a minister, whose home I visited two weeks ago for Bible study and prayers. I've made his acquaintance over the past five years or so from the booth he sets up at the Redlands Market Night, about ten miles from here. This is not the one in Yucaipa where the Bahai booth was. So this is tonight, in about three hours, or 7 pm California time.

Then tomorrow night, Saturday at 7 pm California time will be the play at Loma Linda University. I just read the book:
. LeoTolstoy and the Baha'i Faith
. In preparation, and with the hope of presenting it either to the playwright, or the man who plays Leo Tolstoy. The playwright is from out of town, and writes scripts for Bill Maher, who is a popular comedian known for being very anti-religion and an atheist

. The fellow playing Tolstoy is a local professor at Loma Linda University, a PhD who is also working at his masters degree in religion, and is very friendly, humble, and approachable.

. Prayers tonight and tomorrow very much appreciated, and am going to wear the T-shirt at both events

Allah'u'Abha

Allah'u'Abha,

. The Supreme Concourse is hitting on all 9 cylinders !!! !!! !!!

. Shoghi Effendi said:

. "If you wish to experience the confirmations of God, you will find it in rich abundance in the teaching field."

. With many, many prayers from many, many people, Baha'is around the world, the fruit is ripening and is falling from the trees. Nothing but friendliness and welcoming gestures from everyone we encounter, with requests and invitations to come back, to visit this church in Palm Springs, or that one in Redlands, and Mentone, and please come back to Loma Linda University, where there appears to be a future possibility of a presentation at some point down the road.

Ya Baha'ul'Abha!!!

Some Highlights:

Friday evening at an Adventist church in Mentone, very friendly and welcoming, and one conversation about the Baha'i T-shirt that created an opportunity to respond to the question: "Are you Advenist?"
The reply: "Baha'i... Le Fe Baha'i... Baha'i Faith." met with a curious look.
but also a request to return Sunday evening, etc... by one of the ministers.

Saturday morning a group of intellectuals, retired professors, doctors, scientists meets for two hour every Sabbath for a book study selected for the group of about 35 people. The Baha'i T-shirt drew full attention from several of the distinguished attendees, with questions as to its meaning. Works like a charm!!

1260 AH = 1844 AD
. . = ONE BE

Some have heard of the Faith, some have not, but most are quite surprised to learn that the Islamic calendar year 1260 is equal to 1844, the year of what they call "The Great Disappointment", when Christ was supposed to return, but didn't. So now they are processing the new information... ... ... hmmmm

And then they want to know what ONE BE means: "It is the year One of the Baha'i Faith." ... "You're a Baha'i??? Oh Wonderful!! We have Adventists, Athiests, Catholics, and now Baha'i. We need a Buddhist." ;-)

(This is so much fun!!. and it isn't even ONE o'clock yet!!)

So then we go with a dozen or so to Panera bread and enjoy their company, getting to know them better, but without any further mention of the Faith, just building relationships.

Now to the play:
"The Gospel according to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens, and Count Leo Tolstoy: DISCORD"

So by the time the play starts at 7 pm, Jon Flavor and I went a little early, finding prime seats for when after the play ends, when the playwright, Scott Carter would respond to questions.

Play ends, questions begin. Guess whose hand went up first... ???

"On the program, the question is asked:

.... "What is the key to escaping the room where the three are trapped?"
... ... "Leo Tolstoy gives the answer." :

... "We spend our lives trying to unlock the mystery of the universe, but there was a Turkish prisoner, Baha'u'llah, in Akka, Palestine, who had the key."

. "What is your comment?"

. Wow!! So the playwriter spoke for about 3 minutes about how he had not been able to study all of the volumes of writings of the three men, but that a number of scholars had suggested this and that. He said the play is still evolving, and that he continues to add a line here or there... ;-)
He also described how he came to write it over a 27 year period after he nearly died from an acute asthma problem in 1987. Fascinating story. He had been an atheist, now believes in God, but does not identify himself as a Christian.

. After a few more questions, the crowd is let out. Waiting to enter the aisle, finally someone descending the aisle said to me: "Please, go ahead." As I was stepping into the aisle, she said to another lady:
"I have to do that. I'm Tolstoy's wife." (meaning the actor's wife) Then she notices the book in my hand:

"Leo Tolstoy and the Baha'i Faith" and says:
"Oh! Come look at the books on the table", leading me out to the hall where a copy of three books lay. One about Jefferson, one about Dickens, one about Tolstoy. Ha ha... So I left mine on the table next to the other three, and many of the people filing out of the theatre stopped to look at the books on the table, including the one that just showed up... Hmmmm... ;-)

By now, Jon had handed a page of quotes from Tolstoy about the Baha'i Faith that he had prepared earlier, with a photo of Leo, to each of the three actors, as well as to the playwright, who when he saw it said: "May I have that?"

Ha ha ha... An elderly lady, looking like a very wise old owl, approached me about the shirt, wanting to know its meaning (like she'd been waiting all her life to solve these things). Upon learning that 1260 of the Islamic calendar actually IS 1844, she really lit up, like connecting the dots of meaning with true astonishment, knowing their import. Then wanting to know what ONE BE is.

So after a brief explanation, she asked for my email address, wanting to know more, as I told her there was a book on the table about Leo Tolstoy and the Baha'i Faith. So she went over and wrote down the title.

Aint this great? Most Great??

Ya Baha'ul'Abha!!

Meanwhile, Jon is talking to another Adventist from Palm Springs who wants him to come to his church, and gave him his card. etc, etc, etc...

Yeah. This is fun stuff!!

Please keep the prayers rolling.

Allah'u'Abha,
Dale

PS Please keep the prayers rolling.

Teaching Dear Dale is the Bounty of this Life, God bless you with much more of this Bounty and be assured you will have the prayers offered from here.

Great Story Dale, it was a heart warming evening of great blessings and special moments of significance.

Having been in the Fire a couple of times in situations like this, can I give you advice that I think you may need as you progress, it is advice only and in no way meant to be negative.

Just be prepared for what is to come if success multiplies. When it comes, react with Love and much calmness! Think of how the Master turned the words to a positive situation

God Bless and Regards Tony

Dear Dale, your post sounds like you're "high as a kite"!!! Further proof, if proof be needed, that the greatest "high" is provided by the Holy Spirit. Nothing man made comes even close.

How interesting that in addition to the Adventist movement predicting the return of Christ in 1844 is their tie to 1863!

There is no question that these movements were inspired.
They had a whole ocean separating them from the events which unfolded.
Now the ocean doesn't matter anymore
Young people from all over the world come to Loma Linda Universtity to become excellent doctors, dentists, scientists, health practitioners, and Baha'is... ;-)

Ha ha ha... Does that make us professors?

Happy Halloween Everybody... ;-)

. Gotta share some Notes from Halloween...

. Well, it started out great, picking up another dozen shirts from Duan, the T-shirt man at 9:30 in the morning. If Baha'is believed in reincarnation, he'd have to change his name to Enoch Olinga, the T-shirt man. God bless his radiant heart. And... Oh yeah... Ordered another 20 shirts... ;-)

. But thinking that the same 1260 AD = 1844 AD = ONE BE shirt might not be the thing to do again, again... while visiting this room full of rocket scientists, biology PhDs, psychologists, and theologians, about 35 to 40 filling the room... went with my gut and instead put on the old standby:

. ONE PLANET
. ONE PEOPLE
. PLEASE...

. Was kind of torn, though, when lo and behold, the Great Pumpkin musta heard my prayers, for there appeared down the hallway my trusty friend wearing... you guessed it...

. 1260 AH = 1844 AD
. . . = ONE BE

. He said he was too sick to come. Or mama told him not to come...
. but the second coming of Jon St Flavor saved the day, and we did a double whammy, getting a few looks, doncha know... from Doctor Who and the Pharmacist Show... Man... We're havin' fun!!!

. No direct conversations this time, and afterwards, went to lunch with them
and didn't mention the Faith. Let the T-shirts do the talking. Jon played chess with Dennis the Moderator. Great soul there that we're becoming friends with.

. Sooo... about 6 pm the party is broken up, right? And we don't know what to do, so begin wandering around the campus of Loma Linda University. Wandered a good bit, and figured it was time to part ways and head home, when Lo and Behold... three 7th Day Adventists at 7 o'clock headed our way...

. Can't stop now, figure this out. So Jon is walkin' on the left hand side of the side walk, an' I'm walkin' on the right hand side of the sidewalk, an' there all headed up the middle. Ha ha ha...

. Three beautiful souls. Two out of Africa, and one from Korea.

. Hey! How ya doin'? Nice evenin', doncha know... and Jon went into his routine, and I'm kinda quiet ... but later, we traded places, but not T-shirts, and had about a half hour of fine conversation specifically about the Baha'i Faith, dealing with life after death, the resurrection, and the whole:
. 1260 = 1844 = ONE BE bit.

. Ya Baha'ul'Abha!!!

. Dear friends, if you haven't visited the Facebook site called:

. "The Shirt" ...

. Please do so, and you can see Jon's smilin' face, and Tom, and Joe, and Gwyn, and Susan, and its gettin' bigger every day... with Baha'is from Bermuda, Canada, Mauritius, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Uganda already gettin' on board to make their own T-shirts locally, for as little as $3 per shirt, in Uganda.

. Oh, and the same deal goin' on in Texas, Wisconsin, Florida, Missouri, and California...

. So when you think of Cat Stevens, change the words a little, and hop on the tracks and
. BE a ... Baha'i on the Shirt Train...

. And please remember to say some teaching prayers. Ain't had this much fun in thirty years.

. Allah'u'Abha

Dale priced them here today

80 Shirts will cost $83 SBD Each, includes a 9 pointed star which is 10.50 USD? The design and printing costs changes little with the star, it is the cost of the import shirt!

Can never figure out why so much when wages are so small?

Services and Imports are very expensive here...Shame

Tony,
. Yeah, that sounds kinda high. Do you need to make 80 for a minimum order? And do you have enough Baha'is interested to place that kind of an order?

. Four of the T-shirts were bought at $7 cost at the Riverside Baha'i Center on Sunday, and four more at our Cluster Meeting that evening. I mailed six shirts to three states yesterday... Ha ha ha. They have become popular.

. After three dozen shirts, I only have three left in the arsenal, but 34 more are on order. No star, though.

. The postage rates to Australia are $16 for one, $20 for two or three, and $26 for four shirts... maybe five. So with $7 each, you do the math. Maybe pray about it and consult with other active Baha'is.

. With the above, three shirts at $7 each is $21, plus $20 to ship = $41 for three shirts... Its up to you. Maybe measure the local interest. Get a bunch of people to join "The Shirt" site on Facebook. Get the interest going that way. When they see where this is going and get excited, who knows.

. Meanwhile... I wrote a very detailed letter to the Office of Communication at the US National Baha'i Center, and forwarded it to the Secretariat at the World Center, as well as to the Auxilliary Board members here for Propagation and Protection. Several other dedicated Baha'is and heavy hitters. You know... The usual suspects... ;-)

Send me your email address and I'll send you a copy of the letter I sent to National.

Allah'u'Abha

I brought a plain black tee to a local shop who printed on it a globe and the words " The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens". This too is a great conversation piece wherever I wear it

Yes, I think you can just take your own shirt to them, and they can stamp them with their silk screen thing with whatever you want. They have to do the artwork or that side of it. This guy used a computer program, I think.

Baha'i Youth getting on board the Shirt Train...

Ya Baha'ul'Abha!!

Three Baha'i Youth can be seen wearing "The Shirt".
And about ten adult Baha'is also got their shirts this evening at a fireside/deepening to which we brought a fresh seeker, also wearing the Shirt...

All these photos can be seen on the Facebook site called "The Shirt"

A Baha'i from India is going to make them. His community loved the idea at Feast. Excitement happening from all over the world already starting.

Ya Baha'ul'Abha!!

PS Three of the old scholars approached me individually after the Loma Linda University meeting this afternoon. All wanted to know what was up with The Shirt. Each was fascinated to learn of the fact that 1260 AH, being the Muslim Calendar year of 1844, was what it was about. The seeds are being planted in Adventist country.

PPS Jon and I also attended a Bible study at LLU on Friday evening. The same amazement was shown by four old gentleman there. An Egyptian gentleman asked me what did I know about Islam. The answer that I have read the Quran 4 times seemed to lend itself to some kind of credibility. At the end of the study, after the head of the class said a prayer, Jon said the unity prayer

Please continue praying for The Shirt Project!!

PPPS Duan the T-shirt man now has a book called "The Baha'i Faith" to read. I picked up 34 shirts from him this morning, and at least a dozen went to the Baha'is today, and ordered 20 more.

"Ride on the Shirt Train" ;-)

Woooo Woooooooo...

Update on Teaching

Update on Teaching

Allah'u'Abha,
. Dear friends, We have been having continued success with teaching the Baha'i Faith using "The Shirt" to invite conversations, several times per week, including at Loma Linda University.
. Last week a visiting professor of Arabic language and an Imam at at area mosques spoke at the scholars book club. This created opportunities both within the class and afterwards, to mention and discuss the Baha'i Faith at an elevated level.
. Continued Prayers for these efforts would be very much appreciated.
. Also, please click the link to examine the new Prototype.
. Allah'u'Abha

Should anyone wish to enter into careful, thoughtful, considerate dialogues with tact and wisdom, the link follows:

1260 AH = 1844 AD = 1 BE - Discussion on Topix
Look for the topic 1260 AH = 1844 AD = 1

The Time Prophecies of Daniel pointing to 1844 from the 2300 days intersects with the 42 months (X 30 days) = 1260.
While my Adventist friends recognize 1844 as the correct year of the Advent of Christ's second coming, they ascribe the event as having occurred in some compartment of heaven. The reason they do this is because no one saw Jesus descending on a cloud in the sky overhead. They reexamined the time prophecies and found no error, so had to create an alternative. Then, in explaining what the 1260, or time (360) times (720) and a half (180) equals 1260, their forerunners ascribed this to various events in Papal history to prove the numbers ad up.
What is remarkable is that no one seems to have noticed that the Muslim calendar year 1260 AH coincides with 1844 AD. How can any theologian worth his salt overlook the significance of these overlapping dates?
Ad to this the fact that Daniel had his great vision in Elam, which is Southwestern Iran, and Jeremiah 49:38... clearly states "The Lord shall set His throne in Elam."
In Jeremiah 49:36 it plainly states that "There shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come." The outcasts of Elam are the Baha'is who, being severely persecuted for the past 170 years are today found in every nation, more or less, having been cast out of their home country for the love of Baha'u'llah
Elam is where the Bab, in 1844, set His Throne, foretelling the coming of Him Whom God shall make manifest.
Daniel's references to 1280 are again the year 1280 AH, or 1863 AD, the year that Baha'u'llah publicly proclaimed His Mission to the world. This is also 1290 years after the public proclamation of Muhammad, ten years prior to the Hijra, which began the Muslim calendar, again fulfilling Daniel's prophecies.
Not only do these important time prophecies link the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim calendars, but the place, Elam...
