Friends, At the following link: https://somapps.med.upenn.edu/neuro_t/ you can participate in a survey that is part of important research into an emerging specialization in neurology called neurotheology. Out of this branch of science there has been accumulated a considerable amount of evidence suggesting that prayer, meditation, involvement in religious communities and activities have an effect on the various regions of the brain which result in many healthful changes in the mental and physical health of the individual. As Baha'is we are naturally not surprised by these findings, but since our faith gives so much importance to science and learning, I thought it would be wonderful if Baha'is participated and shared their religious experience to help the researchers gain further scientific insights into the spiritual. Please participate, and also share the link with any other English speaking individuals who you feel might also be interested! Cheers |

I also highly recommend this book: How God Changes Your Brain which was written by the neurologist involved with this survey. If you thought science was dismissing faith and spirituality, read this book and be astonished. It's amazing. Last edited by Fadl; 11-13-2011 at 03:40 AM. |

Here is a quote from the book How God Changes Your Brain that I am very fond of: "Spiritual practices, even when stripped of religious beliefs, enhance the neural functioning of the brain in ways that improve physical and emotional health." -Andrew Newberg M.D. I have used this, and ideas in this book as an approach to people who are disinclined toward spiritual practices and religious life to make them see it from another side. It is very compelling! |

From time to time I see articles where MRI's show the brain activity of those who meditate. I'm not well versed in this practice myself but the MRI's show absolute proof that religious people can turn off certain portions of their brain. These kinds of studies are why I believe science will one day arrive to the conclusions religion has long ago.
