Welcome to the neighborhood; it's great to have you here! :-)

BTW, another Baha'i forum that you may find most interesting is the discussion area of Planet Baha'i; you can find it here:

Planet Baha'i

It has a great mix of Baha'is and others, and lots of fascinating threads.

Best regards, :-)

Bruce

Welcome. Absolutely not. You'll find the Baha'i faith can be much more than what we previously had. It encompasses logic, science and much more. It's about celebrating life. In my family we celebrate all the American and Persian holidays and of course all the Baha'i ones. Celebrate and spread the joy

The one thing I can add to that is that God's spirit, in this age, is more ample during the Baha'i holy days.

Your local Baha'i center should have a book store otherwise get in touch with someone from the assembly and they should be able to help. I'm sure you can find it on some Baha'i online stores as well.

Regarding cremation Pollwr gave a great answer in this thread. Abdul-Baha's explanation is deep and beautiful.

link between spirit and body after death?

Baha'is do want to be distinct from other religions, so we don't just roll all the religious holidays together and celebrate them. We also have been directed to be distinct. Individuals may use their discretion, but I would be disappointed to go into a fully Baha'i household that was decorated like it was a Christian home for Xmas. Additionally I do not see Baha'is decorating for Xmas. I am proud to be a Baha'i and different. I do celebrate Xmas with my sister when I visit her.

It seems backwards to me to check out laws to see if one agrees with them to become a Baha'i. One should first attempt to determine if Baha'u'llah is who He says, the Promised One of All the Ages. IT would then seem moot to question laws such as cremation. If one establishes the truth, then agreeing or not about subsequent laws ought to be a different issue then. Rejecting the Faith because one believes in cremation would be like rejecting Jesus because He did not marry. I would encourage looking at a much bigger part of the picture. I do not think people should "join" the Baha'i Faith. I do think they should believe in the Baha'i Faith and become Baha'is.

I think Jupiter Mad Cat James asked a few questions and just ot be brief to be sure there is an understanding will summarize..

Baha'is do celebrate Christmas and/or Jewish hoilidays with their relatives if they are Christian or Jewish, etc.

Among ourselves we don't celebrate Christmas.. We have "Ayyam-i-Ha" a four or five day period to have fun and exchange gifts or do service to others.. and that starts late this month! It starts sunset February 25th and goes until sunset March 1st.

You can order a Baha'i calendar online from:

Baha'i Wall Calendar (169 BE)

You can see the Baha'i Holy Days here:

The Baha’i Calendar – Bahai Faith | Baha'i Faith | United States Official Website

The Baha'i day starts at sundown and ends sundown the "next" day basically the same as the Jewish day..

It's fact! Cremation and embalming are not permitted under Baha'i law!

AND the Christian day AND the Muslim day AND the Babi day!

In fact, ALL the Abrahamic religions share this same religious pattern for their days.

Best! :-)

IF everyone got cremated then what would that do to greenhouse gases? Burial would seem to be a much gentler process. Cremation of several billion people could be really harsh I would think. Now that the station of Christ is an established "fact" what would one now say to a person who had rejected the Messiah because He abrogated kosher or had not conquered or Rome? Those Jewish people who did not believe in Him rose up against Rome in 70 AD and got the original community of Christians destroyed or dispersed. One wonders what we might know about the history of the early Church if the Jewish Revolt had not occurred. It brings to mind that Jesus said there would not be a stone left standing.
