Dear Friends, There are a couple of books by Baha'u'llah that I haven't read, namely, 'Call to Remembrance', and 'The Reality of Man'. I haven't read The Summons of the Lord of Hosts' either, but have had a quick browse through it. I was wondering if any friends had comments on either of the first two mentioned especially. It's interesting that when I see Compilation books, I don't seem to see many extracts of Writings taken from these said books. As I'm considering purchasing a book (sometime), I also wondered if anyone has a recommendation regarding 'Stories of Baha'u'llah'. I've noticed that the Baha'i Distribution Service here has that title by two different authors: One is by Furutan, and the other author is unknown to me. Thanks! |

Oh, I see. Thank you Tony. They were listed in the 'Writings of Baha'u'llah' section of the price list, amongst the others such as Gleanings, so I got confused, but what you say makes sense. Thanks. Last edited by Rani; 12-04-2011 at 02:00 AM. |

There are so many Baha'i books being published these days it's hard for me to keep track of them.. I was at our Baha'i Center LIbrary today and found some titles I had never heard of before.. Call to Remembrance Compiler: Geoffry W. Marks Product Code: CTRS ISBN: 978-0-87743-237-1 Publisher: Baha'i Publishing Trust, U.S. Pages: 308 Size: 6" X 9" Inches Availability: In stock. Price: $13.95 Qty: The first book to tell the story of Baha'u'llah's life mostly in His own words, Call to Remembrance gives a sense of immediacy and emotional intensity not found in traditional biographies and histories. Extracts from His writings, supplemented by brief contextual passages, relate many major events of Baha'ullah's life and ministry, from His extraordinary childhood and youth to His ascension and the inauguration of His Covenant. An excellent introduction to the subtleties and sublimities of Baha'ullah's life and a valuable resource for drawing closer to the will and purpose of the Manifestation of God for this day and age. Call to Remembrance SC The Reality of Man (A compilation) Compiled by Terry Cassiday, Christopher Martin, and Bahhaj Taherzadeh •Softcover 150 pp. •$12.00/$15.00 CAN •ISBN: 1-931847-17-7 •EAN: 978-1-931847-17-9 An important new collection of Baha'i writings on the spiritual nature of human beings. This compilation provides a sample of the Baha'i religion's vast teachings on the nature of man. Topics include God's love for humanity; the purpose of life; our spiritual reality; the nature of the soul; how human beings develop spiritually; and immortality and life hereafter. The writings are from Baha'u'llah and His appointed successor, 'Abdu'l-Baha. "Men at all times and under all conditions stand in need of one to exhort them, guide them and to instruct and teach them. Therefore He hath sent forth His Messengers, His Prophets, and chosen ones that they might acquaint the people with the divine purpose of underlying the revelation of Books and the raising up of messengers, and that everyone may become aware of the trust of God, which is latent in the reality of every soul." -Baha'u'llah "The mission of the Prophets, the revelation of the Holy Books, the manifestation of the heavenly teachers and the purpose of divine philosophy all center in the training of the human realities so that they may become clear and pure as mirrors and reflect the light and love of [God].Otherwise, by simple development along material lines man is not perfected. At most, the physical aspect of man, his natural or material conditions, may become stabilized and improved, but he will remain deprived of the spiritual or divine bestowal. He is then like a body without a spirit, a lamp without the light." -'Abdu'l-Baha The Reality of Man | Bahai Publishing | Baha'i Publishing | Bahai Books | Baha'i Books So both these books are based on compilations.. The Summons of the Lord of Hosts is a must own for Baha'is of course.. The Summons of the Lord of Hosts By Baha'u'llah •Softcover 275 pp. •$14.00 •ISBN: 1-931847-33-9 •EAN: 978-1-931847-33-9 In these magnificent documents He invites the monarchs and leaders of His time to accept the basic tenets of His Faith, sets forth the nature of His mission, and establishes the standard of justice that must govern the rule of those entrusted with civil authority. Written between 1868 and 1870, leaders of the East and West are called upon to accept His teachings on the oneness of God, the unity of all religions, and the oneness of humanity. Among the leaders specifically addressed are Napoleon III, Czar Alexander II, Queen Victoria, Nasiri'd-Din Shah, and Pope Pius IX. The Summons of the Lord of Hosts is a vitally important resource for those interested in the scripture and history of the world's great religions. Author Bio: Baha'u'llah, meaning “The Glory of God,” is the title assumed by Mirza Husayn-'Ali (1817–1892), the Prophet and Founder of the Baha'i Faith. Baha'is believe Him to be the latest in a line of Messengers from God that includes Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ, and Muhammad. The main theme of Baha'u'llah's message is unity. He taught that there is only one God, that all the world’s religions represent one changeless and eternal Faith of God, and that all humanity is one race, destined to live in peace and harmony. The 144 stories in these pages make such remembrance both effortless and delightful. They come to mind whether one is far away or visiting the scenes in which they occurred. They describe Bahá'u'lláh in Iran, Baghdad, Constantinople, Adrianople, 'Akká and Bahjí, and linger in the memory to uplift and gladden both heart and mind. There are very few people in the West who have known even one person who saw Bahá'u'lláh or experienced the majesty and power, the compassion, humility and humour which characterized His earthly life. Bahá'ís of the East are more fortunate, many having known those, often their relatives, who were in His presence as companions or pilgrims. Yet, as the editor of this book remarks, 'only a few recorded their observations for posterity'. It was in 1975 that 'the thought of collecting personal accounts' occurred to the Hand of the Cause 'Alí-Akbar Furútán. Through correspondence and the examination of numerous memoirs, published and in manuscript, he selected the stories in this enthralling collection. 'Alí-Akbar Furútán has resided in Haifa at the World Centre of the Bahá'í Faith since 1957, having been named by his fellow Hands of the Cause of God one of the nine Custodians of the Faith after the death of Shoghi Effendi. He remained in this capacity until the election of the Universal House of Justice in 1963, continuing his services at the World Centre as Hand of the Cause and member of the International Teaching Centre to the present day. Persian by birth, he took his degree in 1930 at the University of Moscow. He was soon appointed Principal of the Tarbíyat School for Boys in Tehran and elected to the first National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Iran, whose secretary he was for twenty-four years. In the interests of the Bahá'í Faith he has travelled to forty-three countries and every continent. His lectures and writings, particularly on child education, are highly valued, while his breadth of knowledge, practical wisdom and kindly guidance have endeared him to generations of Bahá'í, perhaps above all to the thousands of Bahá'í pilgrims who have come to the Holy Land throughout the years. Included in the book are stories of the Bab, the Letters of the Living, Baha'u'llah and the Holy Family, which are written to be read aloud. "Guide to Finding the Topics Between the Covers” of The Story of Baha’u’llah, was put together in response to questions and the need to communicate succinctly where specific topics might be located. This one page includes a reference to the Reader’s Guide Questions that are online and gives further assistance to locating topics that may not be readily apparent. I'm probably more partial to the Stories of Bahá'u'lláhby 'Alí-Akbar Furútan because I met Mr. Furutan while on pilgrimage ...but I'm sure Druzelle's book will be useful in Study Circles! I think it has something to do with the quality of translation required. In the future there will be great scholars available to undertake this feat. Arthra may know more about this, I have seen some guidance on this issue, but do not have the time to do research at this time. Regards Tony | |

Thank you Arthra and Tony. I appreciate it. And thank for the review on Stories of Baha'u'llah. ! Actually, it was a bit (lazy) of me but I should have included the full title of the 2nd book I was considering.: It is, 'Stories of Baha'u'llah and Notable'... Early Believers, I think it is meant to say. The link actually doesn't give the full title. Bahai Distribution Services. STORIES OF BAHAULLAH & NOTABLE - I |
