Cool Happy Naw-Ruz..168 Baha'i Era!

Happy Naw-Ruz! March 21st Baha'i New Year

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On March 21 Baha'is celebrate the beginning of a new year. Called Naw-Ruz, which means "new day" in Persian, it is one of nine Baha'i holy days on which Baha'is suspend work and school.

Happy Naw-Ruz!Baha'is follow the Badi ("wonderful") calendar, which consists of 19 months of 19 days each (361 days), with the addition of "Intercalary Days" (four in ordinary and five in leap years) between the 18th and 19th months to adjust the calendar to the solar year.

Naw-Ruz begins at sunset on the last day of the Baha'i Fast and is observed with celebration and prayers.

Baha'i New Year is the year 168 of the Baha'i Era!

I just wanted to report that we had our Naw-Ruz today around noon..We were planning a barbecue but it began to rain and it was bitterly cold.. I was beginning to think that we might not have a party.. but we did! And one of the most memorable Naw-Ruz I can recall.. We had a talented Russian guest who played piano and sang Russian songs.. We also had Persian rice and a Naw-Ruz cake.. Children were there and friends from nearby communities..

Oh it sounds lovely Arthra For many years I have always wanted to celebrate Nowruz. I wanted to go the full Iranian - with a Haft sin table, a mirror etc. but I have no Persian neighbours or Baha'i neighbours

I also always wanted to celebrate Hannukkah which I did last year....but my Nowruz wish is as yet unfulfilled....

Maybe one day.......

I need to get myself a Persian/Baha'i girl lol

BTW Obama delivered his 3rd annual Nowruz message two days ago, on 20th March 2011, here is the latest one (Arthra's is the original from 2009). I do admire this side of Obama, I have to say. This was an excellent address both to the world, to the Iranian people and a warning to Iran's leaders:

An except:

“...you – the young people of Iran – carry within you both the ancient greatness of Persian civilization, and the power to forge a country that is responsive to your aspirations. Your talent, your hopes, and your choices will shape the future of Iran, and help light the world. And though times may seem dark, I want you to know that I am with you,” he says.

Amen

Happy Belated!!

Would like to hear how those in smaller communities celebrated the day. Assuming you didn't make it to a larger cities' program .

We had a huge bonfire at a Friends place in the countryside. Lots of good eats., Childrens program & brief readings.

Bonfire was a little too big this year so we couldn't do the usual marshmellows hehe.
