This is the email I sent some friends and the UHJ secreteriat, if anybody can change this please do ..

The Wikipedia page of The Bab has incorrect information, and the reference for it is a book which attacks the founders of the Baha'i faith repeatedly.

The Wikipedia page of The Bab says
'In a series of stages, he first introduced himself as the Báb, /bɑːb/, Arabic: باب‎, meaning "Gate" or "Door", to the Promised Twelver Mahdi or al-Qá'im; then the Mahdi himself; then the Prophet of a New Age; and finally, as the essence of God and his being.'

The Bab did not claim to be the essence of God, The Babi-Baha'i faiths regard the essence of God to be incomprehensible and hidden. Also The Bab did not introduce himself as The gate to the Mahdi then change his claim to be the Mahdi, he openly denied being merely the gate to the Qaim/Mahdi/Imam, yes he was the Gate to Baha'ullah and this is fine, but not the gate to the Mahdi/Qaim/Imam, he was the Mahdi!

"The condemnation of God be upon him who regards me either as a representative of the Imam or the gate thereof" - Dawn Breakers - The Bab quoted

The source of that piece of information of The Bab has come from the book 'Twelve principles a comprehensive investigation on the Baha'i teachings' this book is against the Baha'i faith they do not look at things with justice and attack the founders of the Baha'i faith.

I cannot myself change this information as I have no idea how, please help me get this information to somebody who can change this.

This is the issue with Wiki - You can use the edit tool up the top right hand side and go through the process.

I have done this a few times, I am not sure if and how it goes live after doing this?

As a side note, the 'Gate to the Mahdi' would have been Mulla Husayn, who the Bab gave the title of 'Bab u'l Bab', or 'Gate to the Gate'.

In the commentary of the sura of Joseph the Bab made the formal claim to be the gate to the hidden Qa'im, though the rest of the commentary contradicted this by implication. I know this because I am taking a course on the Writings of the Bab given by the Wilmette Institute.

Okay looks like I got that wrong, what about being the essence of God ? I'm sure he did not claim that right

You are correct, the Bab did not claim to be the "Essence of God".

The Writings of the Bab are very difficult to translate, which is probably a major reason why so few of them are translated currently. It is possible that someone mistranslated a part, or more likely, whoever wrote the Wikipedia article misunderstood.
