Abdu'l-Baha receiving recognition as a Knight of the British Empire.

On that same April 27th of 1920, in the garden of the Military Governor of Haifa, 'Abdu'l-Bahá was invested with the insignia of the Knighthood of the British Empire. That knighthood was conferred on Him in recognition of His humanitarian work during the war for the relief of distress and famine. He accepted the honour as the gift of a 'just king' but never used the title.

Yes always humble.

I feel a little pride that it was the Australian Light horse that were part of the force that entered Haifa during the war, basically to see to the safety of Abdul-Baha.
I remember reading a report by a Baha'i at the time who went out to see what was happening and met an Australian soldier, eating as he said a tomato just like a piece of fruit. Apparently something that surprised him, he then returned to report to the Holy family.

The story behind this photograph was that Abdu'l-Baha refused to sit behind or near the union jack (british flag) was because he considered himself a world Citizen not a British subject. I think that anecdote is in the book Vignettes of Abdu'l-Baha, but I'm not sure.

Anyways. here's what that reminded me of THE RULERS OF AMERICA 63

HEARKEN ye, O Rulers of America and the Presidents of the Republics therein, unto that which the Dove is warbling on the Branch of Eternity: There is none other God but Me, the Ever-Abiding, the Forgiving, the All-Bountiful. Adorn ye the temple of dominion with the ornament of justice and of the fear of God, and its head with the crown of the remembrance of your Lord, the Creator of the heavens. Thus counselleth you He Who is the Dayspring of Names, as bidden by Him Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. The Promised One hath appeared in this glorified Station, whereat all beings, both seen and unseen, have rejoiced. Take ye advantage of the Day of God. Verily, to meet Him is better for you than all that whereon the sun shineth, could ye but know it. O concourse of rulers! Give ear unto that which hath been raised from the Dayspring of Grandeur: Verily, there is none other God but Me, the Lord of Utterance, the All-Knowing. Bind ye the broken with the hands of justice, and crush the oppressor who flourisheth with the rod of the commandments of your Lord, the Ordainer, the All-Wise. 6

Yes, THAT story is true, and I am proud of it. What Abdul Baha did was very wise. for example nowadays in Iran, many Muslims accuse Baha'is and Abdul Baha of being an Agent of British government because of having received the knightship. But what Abdul Baha did really shows His mindset; that , as you mentioned, He is a citizen of the world and a servant of God, not a servant of British empire and not in debt to them because of their gift.

Now, what Trump did, is completely a different matter (although I guess you already know). I am not going to judge him, but he did that because he thought America, and himself as the president, is greater than Britain and the queen. It was a sign of pride, not humbleness.

Oh dear, I have seen numerous videos of Heads of State inspecting a Guard of Honour. It is a traditional part of a state visit. This one is unique: it is a display of unsurpassed rudeness. Even some of the most notorious statesmen of the 20th century knew the basics of a state visit.

As it is, I prefer to believe that this incident has not occurred. Please note that it is supposed to have taken place in England. But England was the home of the Monty Python comedy group. Therefore, I believe that this video was staged by the resurrected Monty Python group (on second thought, it might as well by a product of the Blackadder team).

re: Knighthood Ceremony

The point of posting all that was to never compromise principle and one's own sense of sovereignty. Abdu'l-Baha recognized The "knighthood" was just a ceremony that he attended and accepted as a gesture of respect for his charitable work, but he drew a line to show he won't affiliate into some other country's agenda or nationalism.

The United States is a sovereign country with an elected President that made a gesture of respect to to serving his citizens interests by showing that he doesn't grovel to foreign dictators and doesn't owe them extra special ritual gestures.

We could discuss the integrity or lack of integrity of all of these politicians, but that wasn't where I really wanted to go.
